Can the agent merge or deploy without my say-so?

It only gets the GitLab operations you allowlist, so Approve Merge Request and Create Deployment are available only when you turn them on. Credentials resolve on the server and never ride the model, so it acts with your GitLab token without ever seeing it.

How do I stop it from deleting Airtable records I care about?

Delete Single Record, Delete Multiple Records, and Delete Record Comment are separate operations you choose whether to expose. Leave them off the allowlist and the agent can create records and comment but never remove anything.

Does it need write access to my repo?

It uses the GitLab credential you connect, scoped to whatever that token allows. Connect a token limited to the projects and actions you want, and the operations you expose decide the rest.

What does it mean to connect an app to Claude Code?

You wire an integration node into the agent's tools handle. Each operation that app exposes becomes a tool Claude Code can call directly, so it can take real actions in that app instead of only describing them.

Do I need to write any code to set this up?
