Can it send email and open conversations on its own?

It can send through the Twilio operations you allowlist, like Send Sendgrid Template Email or Create Conversation. Leave the send operations off and the agent can still read Notion and draft the message for you to approve. Nothing goes out that you did not enable.

How does it know who to contact?

It reads the recipient and any template data from your Notion database with Query Notion Database, then passes that into the SendGrid or Conversations call. Store the email or phone as a property so the agent has a clean field to use. It does not scrape addresses from free text unless you ask it to.

Do my Twilio and SendGrid credentials stay private?

Yes. The Twilio and Notion credentials resolve server-side when each tool runs, so the API keys never ride in the model context. Hermes triggers the send and reads the result, but the secret itself stays out of its view.
